Changes Are A’Coming – The Obligatory New Year’s Goals Post

Hi everyone. It’s been awhile, I know. So I figured I’d catch up with this obligatory new year’s goals post. I know, such a cliche, right? 😉

Lots to catch up on. I got a new job! I actually love this job. The people are great and I get to work from home most of the time. It also involves a little travel, so I’m not complaining. 🙂 I’ll be honest though – right now since it’s still new, I’m getting used to things which is one of the reasons why I haven’t been as consistent as I should have with my business. Consistency is really the most important thing you can do for your business – and I dropped the ball. It’s almost like its starting over.

It’s ok, though. Getting the new job was worth it and I have some key ways that I plan make 2020 my best year yet!

Goal #1 – Adding Good Habits

Getting into good habits will do far more for you for consistency than anything else! I do think it takes longer than 21 days to establish a habit. I spoke about The Power of Habit, the book that I read that really helped explain how habits live in a different part of the brain and how to not only establish good ones, but break bad ones too. And one good habit added actually adds others!

I’m going to focus on habits for work, my business, my home, and my health (physical and mental). One of my biggest habits I want to create – don’t laugh — is to look at my list of reminders every day. I need to remind myself to check my reminders! LOL Along with that is the daily habit of checking my calendar and my to-do list. Seriously – just doing these things will keep me on track. A simple habit, but important one!

Goal #2 – Increase Productivity

This year I am going to create productivity goals and work on exceeding my personal best. Whether it be prospecting, writing, follow-ups, or just getting the laundry done, I am going to set productivity goals, keep track of them and try to increase my productivity. What isn’t measured cannot be improved! I discovered a cool little tool I am using to help me with this. It’s called Togl. You can use it for free, although they do have premium options.

Goal #3 – Schedule Self-Care Time

One of the things I do not do as much as I’d like is devote some time for self-care. I want to set aside some time at least a few times a week to do things I love to do or take care of myself. More time to meditate. Get a pedicure (I got one with my niece a few days ago and OMG, I feel good!). A massage. Or maybe schedule a night out with the girls or a weekend away. I think that taking a short mental time-out will really help me start to enjoy life a little more!

Goal #4 – Schedule More Family Time

I will admit my family does not spend as much time together as we should. My husband and I are both complicit in this – but we are both very busy working! The truth is, I can and SHOULD carve out more time to focus on my daughters and also do things together as a family. Even just as a couple. Last weekend, we went bowling and had an incredible time! (btw, I am clearly the worst bowler in the family LOL) I know its such a little thing, but we felt really good doing it. My husband and I were talking about how we need to get away with just each other – we almost never do that!

The fact is, life is short. My children are growing too fast and I don’t want to regret not spending time with them. So I am going to make sure we do that! Even if it means turning off all the electronics and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Goal #5 – Focus

Honestly, I tend to be all over the place sometimes. I have a million things I want to accomplish, and they all need to be done right now! I need to pare down the amount of things I want to get done, focus on a few and then complete those few before moving on to something else. I think practicing doing one thing at a time instead of multi-tasking will also help me.  I’d rather get 3 things 100% done than 15 things 10% done. Otherwise,  you get nowhere!  What will I focus on? Well I’ll limit the list to a few categories and only one thing in each category. That way I can work on improving all aspects of my life! I have felt in the past that focusing meant ignoring other important things. So if I focus on my business, my personal health or my family suffers. I can have multiple small goals and do them at the same time IF I focus on one in each category!

So I realize that these goals aren’t specific to my business. Also notice that there aren’t any monetary goals, or audience goals (number on my list, followers, etc). Not that those things aren’t important, but I really do believe that if I stick to my goals, then my income and audience will increase automatically! In fact, I know this? How? All of my coaches told me so! Only I wasn’t listening – until now.
