How To Manage Facebook Messenger

Managing your prospects in Facebook Messenger is messy, at best. If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, you are contacting dozens of people every day and starting up conversations. Building relationships. But keeping track of all that is a nightmare!

I am the quintessential process person. I can’t stand when the process is awful – or an app just doesn’t do what I need it to do! (don’t equate this to being neat. LOL)  To be fair, Facebook did not design Messenger for people in direct sales or marketers. It was meant for casual social conversation.

What’s the issue? Well, you are having many conversations, there isn’t a way to really filter them. It’s hard to follow-up with conversations that just went dormant. You can easily get lost.

Well, in conjunction to a great website that I use on a daily basis, I have solved the Facebook Messenger problem! It’s called Toodledo and its literally the best To-Do app that I have ever used!

Long story short, for each person I am contacting, I add their name as a “to-do” in a folder I create just for prospects. It is a recurring task that repeats daily upon completion. I am trying to follow-up on a daily basis. What does “upon completion” mean? I’m glad you asked.

Say you create a task that starts 1/1 to brush your teeth (yes, silly example, but bear with me here). You want it to repeat every day. Let’s say that you haven’t been good at brushing your teeth (eww) or updating the task when you do, and today is 3/4. Ouch.

Well, 3/4 comes around and you brush your teeth. If your task repeats daily UPON COMPLETION, that means when you check of the task that was due 1/1, the task will complete and a new one will be created that is due 3/5 (which is tomorrow, in this example). If your task was repeat daily on the due date, then the task would complete and a new one will be created for 1/2.  Well, you don’t care about 1/2. That day is past and gone. See what I mean? This feature is awesome.

Anyways, I digress. I just added a person’s name as a task. In the notes section, I add the URL of their Facebook page. It will automatically turn into a clickable link.

On a daily basis, I can add new people to prospect. I can also follow-up with my conversations by clicking the link of the task. It will open up in a new browser page, where I can click the Facebook Messenger button. If I am on my phone, it will open up the Facebook Messenger app. If I am on a desktop, it will just open up a Messenger box.

I can start or continue my conversation. Clicking the task done, it will repeat (for the next day or whatever you set it for) for your follow-up.

You don’t have to worry about cleaning up your Facebook Messenger inbox.

If you do, though, for any dormant conversation or for ones where the person didn’t respond, you can archive them. If they respond, the conversation will re-appear in the inbox.
